January 28, 2016 – Interview with Jake Hall, Exalted Ruler, Ballard Elks Lodge #827
Question: Would you mind telling us a little about yourself?
Answer: Jake Hall, 32. Born and raised in Seattle (Ballard). Now live in magnolia. Dad died when I was 4, raised by a single mom my whole life. Have two older siblings. My brother Garrett (middle) and sister Micheline (oldest).
Question: Tell us more.
Answer: I am engaged to my loving fiancée Calysta. I went to Blanchet High School. I am now a machinist for a industrial pump and motor company. I grew up playing hockey, from age 3-17. I traveled all over North America. As goalie playing for high ranked teams I learned to deal with pressure and team work.
Question: How long have you been an Elk?
Answer: I’ve been an elk now for about 5 years. My brother got me to join mostly for the cheap beers, Seahawk games and view. But soon after I really enjoyed the lodge and what was happening. Long-time member, Grims G., asked me if I would like to become an officer and that’s was that. I started as Lecturing Knight; did me full term there. Afterwards, I was fast tracked to the top! We had one officer step down so I became the leading knight, skipping one chair. Then unfortunately the ER at the time needed to step down. So now here I am as Exalted Ruler. I love being a leader and stepping up in a time a need. I feel like I get things done better when there’s pressure put on me.
Question: What has been a particularly memorable or rewarding accomplishment in your life?
Answer: Coaching little league has probably been one of the most rewarding things I’ve done as an adult. We took a team as left over kids and we ended up winning the championship our first year coaching. A big goal was raising $7000 last year, our first year for the MS walk
Question: What’s something most people don’t know about Jake Hall?
Answer: I’m also a huge Volvo dork. I’ve owned around 15 Volvos in my life time.
