Here is the big one, Why?  Why we are doing this is simple – to raise funds for the lodge while doing something fun for our membership.  Your lodge Past Exalted Ruler Association recognizes our lodge is struggling financially without our regular event income and we want to do something about it.

In true Elks fashion The Association is creating something fun for the membership while raising money for charity – only this time the Charity is our own lodge.  Elks fellowship and our facility has given so much to each and every one of us over the years, 827 now needs our help for its very survival.

Organizations like ours are not eligible for forgivable loans or business grants and our taxes still need to be paid to the tune of over $110k per year.

Please consider joining us on November 7th to enjoy your lodge and see some of your fellow members, albeit at nearby tables, and help your lodge survive these times will having an enjoyable dinner served in our downstairs space.

The social quarters will be open as well on November 7th if you would prefer to order off the menu and enjoy something besides Uncle Nestor’s famous Manhattan’s.

BEPC Halloween Paddling Race

Here is a reminder that registration for the BEPC Halloween Paddling Race is open, and the forecast is good!

The BEPC Halloween Paddling Race will be a fundraiser for Rainier Scholars, a comprehensive 12-year program that provides access and opportunity by bringing together academic preparation, leadership development and personalized support for hard-working, low-income students of color.

Open to all human powered water craft – SUP, kayak, surf ski, outrigger, prone, peddle, etc.

Covid-19: The race format follows Phase 2 guidelines. Distancing and masks will be practiced on shore with distancing on-water. We ask that there’s no loitering on the beach before/after the race.

There will be a long course (~12k) and a 5k short course, with a mandatory safety meeting at 9:30AM on Saturday, October 31. Costumes are optional and highly encouraged! All racers must pre-register at the link below:

2020 Season Prizes
After the Halloween Race (whether you participate or not) stop by our booth in the parking lot. We will have some announcements about our fundraising efforts, a “standings” report for the summer 2020 race season, and best of all — PRIZES for everyone.

Big thanks to our sponsors for donating awesome gifts: Kavu, Northwest Outdoor Center, Ray’s Boathouse and Urban Surf.

Ballard Elks Race Series #4
Safety meeting: 6.30pm
Start: 7pm
Register Here:
Reminder: last week we had a handful of racers who didn’t pre-register, and also wanted to pay with cash.
We want to include and accommodate everyone, but COVID makes this difficult. We cap our races at 24 entrants, and have introduced online payments to simplify registration and reduce person-to-person contact. With the largest daily increase of cases in WA last Thursday since COVID began, we encourage all to pre-register and won’t be able to accommodate walk-ups until conditions improve.
If you didn’t pay last week, that’s fine. If you feel like making a donation to the Paddle Club, here’s a Paypal link to do so.

2) Cost: $5 for Elks (use discount code BEPC when checking out) $10 for non-members.
3) Max cap: 24 racers

Get it awn! Last week’s revival of the BEPC summer race series was hectic – that wind and current and chop!

This week we’ll extend the distance to 6K – about 3.7 miles – with a Palmer custom course that should give everyone a little bit of everything. Hoping for some fun breeze to ride back into the channel.

Treasurer Harry O has solved a known friction and moved out payment systems online. Paddle Club Members MUST use discount code BEPC to get membership price, otherwise the cost will be $10.

Our pre-race routine will follow last time’s successful and safe format: masks on until on the water, will launch in heats set day of the race, drafting is OK, pass at safe distance, and in all circumstances off water maintain physical distancing.

It takes a village, or in this case a flotilla!
