Blood Drive Success!

Blood Drive Success!

The blood drive went really well on yesterday and our team enjoyed their time at this drive. We hope everyone had a great experience too.

Blood Drive Results:

  • Total Registered Donors: 27 people
  • We welcomed 2 first-time donors!
  • Units of Blood Collected: 18 units
  • Lives Saved: Since each donation can save up to three lives, the blood that was collected will help save the lives of up to 54 patients in our community.

Please help us share these amazing results and pass along our thanks to everyone for their contribution!

Most importantly, thank you for your efforts to recruit, promote and plan! You are as much a part of our ongoing success as the donors who share this very special, lifesaving gift.

Since you can donate every 56 days, these donors will be eligible to give blood again by December 6th. Normally, we have two blood drives a year – would you be available and interested to increase our frequency? J

Thank you again for your support to our mission!

Help us support the Second Chances Scholarship at the WA State Elks Summer Convention

Goody Bags

Each year, every WA Elks Lodge is sent 4 goody bags to fill, which are then sold for $5 a piece at the Dorothy Yothers 2nd Chances Scholarship table at the summer convention. If every lodge brings their 4, that’s $760 which goes towards the scholarship fund. It’s a fun and easy fundraiser. Some of the lodges fill more than those four!

We are looking for people to help fill the bags with goodies, either through donating items or taking one and filling it yourself. Snack bars, individually wrapped candies, small bags of chips, lodge pins are all examples of what we have included in the past.

If you just want to bring a box of snack bars, or a bag of candy, or… whatever you think would make a nice addition to the bags, to the Lodge, you can put it in the blue bin by the display case and we will get the bags filled! If you want to put together your own goody bag, feel free to do so! Just leave it in the bin and we’ll be sure it makes it to the convention.

We must have the bags filled by June 14th, in order to get them to the convention.

Auction Donations

This year, they are also looking for donations for an auction. The organizer has acquired several pieces of costume jewelry for the auction, and plans on bringing a basket of goods, as well. She has suggested donations of wine or gourmet food to help us put together another basket for the auction. Or… if you have any items you would like to donate to the auction, they would be much appreciated.

Donations needed by June 14th, in order to get them to the convention.

Volunteer Opportunities

We are looking for motivated members to volunteer their time and enthusiasm to help out around the lodge.  We have positions for everything from youth activities to community outreach to building maintenance – whatever your interest and passion may be we have something you can help out with.  Please contact our Volunteer Chair –

Some specific needs we have currently:

  • Elks National Foundation Coordinator
    • Your lodge needs a volunteer to step up and help our grant writer match grants with ideas and volunteers to make things happen.   Duties include recognizing items that a grant from the Elks National Foundation can fund and working with our Grant Writer to get the funds to the right person to make great things happen and motivating someone to come up with an idea that an Elks National Foundation Grant can fund.  We have a very able grant writer, now we need the go between person.
  • Safety & Accident Prevention Committee
    • Our lodge needs volunteers to create and run our Accident Prevention Program, with one member designated as Accident Prevention Manager, to continually review and implement a policy, in concert with Grand Lodge and State Association programs, to protect the Lodge from claims for accidents and injuries.
  • Vocational Scholarship Committee
    • We need volunteers to organize, promote and run a Vocational Scholarship Committee.  Our state has money to give away to both graduating seniors and adult reeducation that simply does not get used.  You will be creating this committee from the ground up and figuring out how to make it work but how cool will it be to GIVE AWAY money to people in our community?

Special opportunity to support our Exalted Ruler, Jake Hall, for upcoming Seattle MS Walk! Register today.

Please walk with Team Hall and Ballard Elks Lodge #827 Exalted Ruler, Jake Hall, on April
10, 2016, for MS Walk.  All are welcome. Register here!

Jake Hall and family.
Jake Hall wanted nothing more than to be a strong husband and parent one day when the MS hit.

In April 2015, after the shock wore off from being diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis, our own Exalted Ruler, Jake Hall, rallied to raise $7,000 in the Seattle MS Walk.  With the support of his family, fiancee, friends and lodge, Jake’s effort received special commendation from the MS Society for “Rookie team of the year!”   It was such a great experience that this year, Jake Hall has set the bar higher with a goal to raise $10,000.

How can you help Jake Hall, Exalted Ruler of Ballard Elks Lodge #827, tackle MS?

  1. Register to walk or run under the banner of Team Hall.  It’s a lovely route set up just for the 5.5 mile MS Walk in the heart of Seattle, along the water starting around the University of Washington. (map)
  2. Bring your friends, family and co-workers to walk with you under the banner of Team Hall.  All are welcome.  It’s free, easy and rewarding – have them register here.
  3. Once you are registered and listed under Team Hall, ask your friends and family to support your trek with a small donation.  All proceeds go to MS Society and count towards Team Hall’s contribution.
  4. Donate to MS Society for Team Hall now.

Many employers have a matching program where you can double your impact. See link in the donor form or click here to find out if you can double your impact.

People with MS might appear drunk due to involuntary body movements, but they are not drunk.

Elks invited to show solidarity with Exalted Ruler; join Team Hall and walk with Jake.

Any Elk ever touched by MS is especially invited to walk, run or saunter with us in the beautiful Spring air (April 10, 2016 ). It will be a blast to walk or run under the banner of Team Hall! Let’s show Seattle how the Elks rally for and support each other. Sign up to walk with Team Hall now.

After you have signed up, please ask your friends and family to support your feat of athleticism with a donation. They can do that easily online at the Team Hall page on MS Society website. Proceeds for all walkers and runners will be pooled under Team Hall and go to MS Society.

Team Hall in the house! Rookie Team of the Year in MS Walk Seattle 2015.

If you are not able to walk with us on April 10 or donate,  you can still help in other ways:

  • Recruit and encourage others to register as part of Team Hall on MS Society website.
  • Share this with businesses whose employees might participate, especially if they have a matching program.

Jake Hall has said that he is an open book.  He is happy to answer questions about MS anytime; just ask.  Click to learn more about Jake Hall.

Help Your Lodge!

Elks National Foundation

Our Lodge was assessed $4.60 per member for the 2015 calendar year based on our membership role of 980 members at the beginning of this year. That assessment comes to $4508.00 that our lodge is required donate to the Elks National Foundation. This amount is above and beyond any portion of our membership dues that is allocated to the Elks National Foundation.

Our current per capita donation level is sitting at just $2.89, barely over 60% of our goal and sadly this amount ranks us at #37 out of 38 lodges in the state of Washington and one of only 8 lodges in our state that have not met the per capita goal of $4.60.

Lodges meet local needs in Elks communities through Beacon, Gratitude, Promise and Impact Grants. These grants offer Lodges opportunities to serve the community in ways that will raise the Lodge’s profile, energize the membership, encourage former members to return to the fold, and gain the notice of people who want to be part of an organization that’s doing great things.
