March with the Ballard Elks in the Syttende Mai Parade!

We are looking for Ballard Elks to participate in downtown Ballard’s annual Syttende Mai Parade (or Norwegian Constitution Parade) on May 17th, 6-8 pm.  This is a grand Ballard mid-week Spring tradition and always a big turnout!  This year there will be Royal Norwegian dignitaries flying out to Seattle just to attend this!

Our goal is to get at least 100 Elks, friends and family of members dressed in Viking costumes to march behind the Boy Scout banner and flag carriers.

I will need 4 or more convertible automobiles and driver/owners to drive our Elks Dignataries (Lois, Exalted Ruler, Knights and Trustees) in the parade. (A flatbed pickup with chairs would be another option, but not as elegant).  Other vehicles will make up part of the procession as well, such as the Official BPOE logo utility trailer.

If you are a new member and have yet to volunteer for an event, this is an ideal opportunity for you. It’s easy and fun duty, and a grand way to help promote our club to the local community while getting to know fellow members and make new friends!

This will count towards your annual volunteer hours requirement as almost 5 hours (meeting at Olaf’s Tavern at 4:30 to get in costume and begin the lineup/formation, parade at 6, and debrief at 8 pm, wrapping up no later than 8:30).

If you can participate, please contact our organizer, Tim Arnot.
