BEPC Halloween Paddling Race

Here is a reminder that registration for the BEPC Halloween Paddling Race is open, and the forecast is good!

The BEPC Halloween Paddling Race will be a fundraiser for Rainier Scholars, a comprehensive 12-year program that provides access and opportunity by bringing together academic preparation, leadership development and personalized support for hard-working, low-income students of color.

Open to all human powered water craft – SUP, kayak, surf ski, outrigger, prone, peddle, etc.

Covid-19: The race format follows Phase 2 guidelines. Distancing and masks will be practiced on shore with distancing on-water. We ask that there’s no loitering on the beach before/after the race.

There will be a long course (~12k) and a 5k short course, with a mandatory safety meeting at 9:30AM on Saturday, October 31. Costumes are optional and highly encouraged! All racers must pre-register at the link below:

2020 Season Prizes
After the Halloween Race (whether you participate or not) stop by our booth in the parking lot. We will have some announcements about our fundraising efforts, a “standings” report for the summer 2020 race season, and best of all — PRIZES for everyone.

Big thanks to our sponsors for donating awesome gifts: Kavu, Northwest Outdoor Center, Ray’s Boathouse and Urban Surf.

Get it awn! Last week’s revival of the BEPC summer race series was hectic – that wind and current and chop!

This week we’ll extend the distance to 6K – about 3.7 miles – with a Palmer custom course that should give everyone a little bit of everything. Hoping for some fun breeze to ride back into the channel.

Treasurer Harry O has solved a known friction and moved out payment systems online. Paddle Club Members MUST use discount code BEPC to get membership price, otherwise the cost will be $10.

Our pre-race routine will follow last time’s successful and safe format: masks on until on the water, will launch in heats set day of the race, drafting is OK, pass at safe distance, and in all circumstances off water maintain physical distancing.

It takes a village, or in this case a flotilla!
